Senior Reinsurance Accountant

About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Reinsurance Accountant to support the growth of the UK Finance function within the Monument Re Group. This role is based in our London office and is pivotal in understanding the Group and its diverse business lines, enhancing the reporting process through detailed analysis and preparation of comprehensive MI reports.  

Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • To develop a good understanding of the Group and its businesses and  add value to the reporting process;
  • To analyse financial results, assess variances against plan, prepare relevant reports and provide insightful commentary on findings;
  • Assist with the ongoing development and production of the monthly, quarterly and annual reinsurance reporting packs;
  • Ability to lead process improvement and actively work to streamline reporting processes to provide prompt delivery of collateral and financial reporting;

Agreement Compliance:

  • To ensure that the subsequent accounting for specific deals reflects all elements of the signed agreements;
  • Assist the Head of Reinsurance with tracking of the reinsurance cash flows, advising of upcoming payments, reviewing SSIs and ensuring timelines set within reinsurance agreements are met;

Internal Control and Process Documentation:

  • Ensure the controls associated with the work performed are executed and documented to internal timelines; 
  •  To work closely with the Head of Reinsurance on recurring and ad hoc requirements, including setting out reporting processes, operating manuals and data requirements in relation to new reinsurance projects. 

Management Support:

  • Provide the reinsurance stakeholders, such as the investment reporting and actuarial teams with regular inputs in their process, as well as ad hoc support; and
  • Review claims/collateral calculation, and resolve any discrepancies by collaborating with stakeholders and management.

Role Requirements

  • Qualified accountant (ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA – 2-4 years PQE);
  • High levels of computer literacy – strong Microsoft Excel skills are essential. Anaplan and Workiva experience preferred;
  • Reinsurance experience preferable but Insurance industry essential;
  • Prior experience of working in a multi-currency environment;
  • The ability to complete work quickly with a high degree of accuracy;
  • Work independently and take initiative to meet tight deadlines; 
  • A self-motivated, energetic individual, keen to get involved in all areas and with a desire for continuous learning;
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills. Confident in dealing with colleagues from different functions, geographic locations and levels of seniority;
  • A dynamic team player who is happy to cover elements of other people’s roles when necessary
  • Flexible and adaptable to a changing environment
