Compliance Officer – Brussels/Liège – Belgium
About the role
Eager to take up a compliance role in an international, dynamic and strongly growing company in the financial sector? Monument Assurance Belgium (“MAB”) has a unique business model that consists in acquiring Life Insurance portfolios. As Compliance Officer will be responsible for supervising compliance with the relevant laws, regulations, internal rules and ethical standards applicable to an insurance company in Belgium.
Responsibilities
This position involves developing, implementing, and managing our compliance program, conducting audits, and providing guidance on compliance issues.
Your tasks will include, among others:
- Coordinate and assist in the completion of regulatory filings to the National Bank of Belgium and FSMA, and of internal group reports;
- Lead the local compliance team and report to the Chief Risk Officer, and provide compliance report to the Management Committee and Risk and Compliance Committee (Board of Directors);
- Revise internal policies linked with amongst others: integrity, whistleblowing, conflict of interests, financial crime, fit and proper and product oversight governance, related to risks, internal control and compliance and evaluate the efficiency of compliance controls;
- Drive the implementation and execution of the compliance action plan, as defined by the regulatory authorities;
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of the yearly compliance action plan and conduct compliance risk analysis;
- Provide day-to-day advice on regulatory & ethical matters;
- Provide independent opinions on portfolio transactions and other projects from a compliance perspective;
- Coordinate trainings and workshops, and support to the business to enhance awareness and understanding of integrity and ethical conduct;
- Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the company as well as evolving best practices in compliance control;
Role Requirements
- Master in Belgian Law, Economics, Criminology, Finance or other relevant background;
- At least 3 years of relevant experience;
- Understanding of the insurance business and the regulatory framework in Belgium;
- Obtained the compliance officer’s certificate or have the willingness to obtain the certificate in the short term;
- Approved function holder with the NBB and FSMA, or experience to achieve this;
- Excellent command of English, and French or Dutch, with a proficient level of the other national language;
- Sound knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel and Power Point);
- Experience in people management;
- Strong detail orientation and analytical;
- Good communicator with external stakeholders as well as internal stakeholders and colleagues;
- High level of integrity and discretion;
- Independence of mind which enables you to make objective, unbiased decisions and provide impartial advice to management and employees;
- Ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines, service minded and solution and result oriented.
